A Paris Ode

A Paris Ode

When I rest my head and then close my eyes

I dream of you, as sweet as daffodils

Your lovely whisper and your gentle touch

Bring to my ears the charm of distant bells

Life close to you is but an endless dream

Of happiness, no book of love excels

How could Fate throw me in your boundless sea?

Tossed on its waves, never to see its shore?

The rain, the fog, the Seine, the charm of France

Are but a fraction of your charm to me

It travels with my eyes in every look

And colors everything I look to see

It wanders in my thoughts with every step

I take through Paris, everywhere I be

“ How can a woman’s charm”, I asked myself

“ Take so much of one’s mind, and even more”.
